Woodworking 101 is an immersive four-session course designed to introduce participants to the fundamental principles and techniques of woodworking. Led by a seasoned instructor with years of experience in the craft, this class is perfect for beginners eager to explore the world of woodworking and create functional, handcrafted pieces.

Dates of Sessions:

  1. October 25th from 6pm-8pm

  2. November 8th from 6pm-8pm

  3. November 22nd from 6pm-8pm

  4. December 6th from 6pm-8pm


Course Structure: Over the course of four two-hour sessions, students will delve into the art and science of woodworking. Each session is thoughtfully designed to build upon the previous, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the basics.

Session 1: "Introduction to Woodworking"
Duration: 2 hours
Overview: Participants will be introduced to the essential tools, materials, and safety protocols in woodworking. They will gain hands-on experience with basic hand tools and learn to identify different types of wood. The session will conclude with a demonstration of fundamental woodworking joints.


Session 2: "Mastering Techniques: Cutting and Shaping"
Duration: 2 hours
Overview: This session will focus on honing cutting and shaping skills. Students will learn various cutting techniques, including sawing and chiseling, as well as shaping methods like planing and sanding. By the end, they will be able to create smooth, precise cuts and shapes.


Session 3: "Joinery: Crafting Strong Connections"
Duration: 2 hours
Overview: The art of joinery is the backbone of woodworking. In this session, participants will explore different types of joinery, such as dovetail, mortise and tenon, and biscuit joints. They will practice creating strong, seamless connections between pieces of wood.


Session 4: "Finishing and Assembly"
Duration: 2 hours
Overview: The final session will focus on finishing techniques and assembling the woodworking project. Students will learn how to apply finishes like stains, paints, and varnishes to enhance the appearance and durability of their creations. They will also gain insights into proper assembly methods to ensure the longevity of their projects.
What to Expect: By the end of Woodworking 101, participants will have acquired a solid foundation in woodworking. They will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to confidently embark on their own woodworking projects, whether for functional household items or personal artistic endeavors.

Prerequisites: No prior experience in woodworking is required. This class is tailored for beginners with a passion for crafting and a desire to learn the art of woodworking.

Materials Provided: All necessary materials and tools will be supplied for use during the course. However, students are encouraged to bring their own safety goggles and ear protection for a personalized experience.
